Sometimes it takes bravery to bring up a cultural taboo that is actually hurting people. Jared Diamond, in his great book, "Collapse" talks in depth about the taboo of vikings in Greenland to not eat fish. They starved to death trying to eat cow instead.
While I don't personally have a tattoo (Average height, brown eyes, brown hair, if I had one, I couldn't just "vanish"), I don't think that we should ever discriminate based on something like this. It reminds me too much of the Dr. Seuss's "star bellied sneeches"
As part of the discussion in Celestina's excellent article, Stepping it up a notch- A vision for Newsvine, it was suggested that Newsvine create a "Citizen Photo-journalism Photo Pool" with both stock news based photography and event based images.
